FAQs
Why save the school?
In the 1930s, the Fallsvale School District was formed for children residing in the mountain area known today as Forest Falls. The land was donated, and a stone house was constructed by the community. When California enacted a law stipulating that standalone community school districts could no longer exist, the existing districts were required to integrate into a unified school district. This led to Fallsvale being taken over by the Redlands Unified School District. During this transition, they received the deed to the property in the 1960s. Although they operated the school, they attempted to close it in 1979 because the old stone schoolhouse did not comply with earthquake safety regulations necessary for classroom instruction. Their plan was to bus the children down the hill instead of maintaining a school in the community. However, the community protested, stating that they would not allow their children to be bussed elsewhere for education. Once more, the community united and collaborated, resulting in the construction of today's Fallsvale School, with parcel contribution from the forestry. For the past 21 years, the school has been operated under the Bear Valley School District in Big Bear. Nonetheless, the property remains under the jurisdiction of the Redlands Unified School.
How will funds be used?
